“I was blown away with the quality of your
birds, you really have a super stud of top quality show
budgies”

“I was most impressed with your birds –
those Spangles are very special. They are the best show birds
I have seen out here – ever. They are as good as
anything I have seen in Europe. Jo Mannes is still a long way
ahead of people in Europe but you would be giving him a run
for his money. I do not know how he does it but his Spangle
markings are so good so he will always have the upper hand
– but you would be right on his tail. Try and keep them
together but learn the lesson of others and do not in-breed
them – if you do they will get smaller – and
disappear. My experience is that they are difficult enough to
get but they are even more difficult to maintain for a few
years.” Fred Wright after the 2009 SA National |

| In this site we have tried to give you a glimpse into how we
first started out breeding Budgerigars. Our methods and successes, we have also noted our plans for the future. We have many varieties in our aviary and it is our wish to register as many colours as possible as champion birds (see profile) We are Gold medal Champion Breeders and won the Champion of Champion medal in 2007,2008,2009,2010 and in 2011. We are the only exhibiters in the history of the South African Budgerigar Society who won the SA National 3 times consecutively Our ring code is PALM which is derived from Pierre, (Arno, Louis, our two sons) and Maja As members of the Karoo Budgerigar Club, KABC, and the Budgerigar Society of South Africa, BSSA, we have made many friends and have travelled quite extensively to shows, we are both international Judges. At the end of 2010 Pierre was elected as Chairman of the Judges Committee, and Maja was elected Secretary of the Judges Committee. We have also travelled to the UK, Switzerland and Germany and visited many fanciers Hopefully as you look at our pages in the site you will learn a little and who knows if you are new to the hobby then perhaps with some dedication you will follow in our footsteps. |

Extract from the 2009 Administrator Annual Report for Budgerigar Society of South Africa
“During the passed show season one exhibitor gained the exceptional achievement of winning what I believe could be called the Grand Slam namely Best on Show at all six major shows. This is, to my knowledge, the first time in the history of the Society that this has happened. Well done Pierre & Maja, you have shown us all what could be achieved by total commitment and dedication to the hobby”
From Malcolm Taylor: May 2010
“A
saying I heard which I believe sums up what you have achieved,
it comes from Ted Kennedy (US Senator).
Quote; “Some men dream and say why, I dream and say why not”.
End quote.
Your quest for all 26 CC in a show is obtainable by very few people one of which I believe are yourselves. In fact I will go so far as to say possible the only ones under the present circumstances that can, and that is imbedded in the saying above.
Thank you for all that you do for the hobby, it is good to know
there are breeders like yourselves that keep the hobby going and
inspire the rest of us to do and be better.
Over
the years there as always being breeders to beat, Doc Robertson,
Bill Wilcox, Pat De Beer, Fred Sherman, Molkentin, and now
Pierre&Maja. All have made the showing a challenge to others,
all have added to the hobby by their very presence, this I
believe applies to you both by the truck load.
Thanks for being a friend not only to me on a personal level but
to the hobby in general.”
